Another day, another in-depth bike review by us – your trusted source!
There’s been quite some buzz around this one recently – its power and range are reportedly one of a kind, and its design puts this model in front of its competition.
Of course, this is all pure theory – until we get a fresh look at this bad boy!
To see whether this one’s a bop or flop, scroll down!
Cannondale Mottera Neo isn’t your regular commuter, and you’ll probably be using it on some less “usual” routes. So, naturally, your #1 priority should be comfort.
To your extreme luck, this one’s passed the test.
Cannondale’s model comes in various sizes. More precisely, it comes in:
Small: 157cm - 165 cm
Medium: 167 cm - 175 cm
Large: 172 cm - 182 cm
Extra large: 185 cm - 195 cm
Height shouldn’t be a problem if you’re interested in this model – 99% chances are that you’ll be able to hop on it without any trouble.
Why focus on the frame?
Well, since you’ll be going on longer routes with this one, you should have space for your legs.
Motor
Next up, we’ve got the engine on this bad boy. So, does this one pass the test or nah?
This mountain bike has a 750- watt engine. For an off-road bike, this is a pretty good deal. Compared to weaker motors common for commuters, 750W allows you to reach higher acceleration and speed on your journey.
The biggest pro regarding this one is that it’s basically built for riders looking to navigate hilly terrains more easily. With an engine of this power, you’ll be able to climb hills and conquer challenging areas.
Basically, if you were planning on going for a “hike with your bike,” this is the one.
It’s not all rainbows and sunshine with this one, though.
The first red flag is that e-bikes with an engine of 750W and higher can be subject to regulation in some areas. You’ll have to be careful where you choose to flaunt your mountain bike.
The next reddish flag is that stronger engines usually add to the weight of the bike, which makes it a bit more difficult to pedal after some time. In this case, Cannondale Moterra weighs about 57 lbs without the pedals.
I’d say it’s not that big of a deal. Really, it depends on the add-ons you’re planning to bring.
All in all, it’s a solid 8/10.
Brakes
No brake for us; we’re just moving to the brake section of the review.
E-bikes, specifically mountain bikes, are susceptible to higher pressure, speeds, and acceleration, and that’s why having reliable brakes is a must.
With Cannondale’s Mottera Neo Carbon 2, you’re safe – whatever speed you choose. This bad boy is equipped with hydraulic brakes. More precisely, you’re looking at Shimano MT520 4-piston hydraulic disc, 203/203mm RT64 rotors.
Why are hydraulic brakes a must, especially with an e-bike like this one?
Right off the bat, hydraulic brakes offer superior stopping power – and you’re in dire need of these because you’ll be going up and down hilly areas. If you see mechanical brakes on a mountain bike, don’t walk; run from them!
Also, hydraulic brakes handle heat much better. Chances are you’ll be going a bit faster than usual, and heat buildup can cause a problem if the brakes on your bike are, so to say, weak.
We’ve saved the best for last – hydraulic brakes are more sensitive to the touch and generally more comfortable. So don’t worry – if an obstacle comes up out of nowhere, you’re safe.
The only thing that’s not superb is maintenance. Hydraulic brakes require more time from you than regular brakes. You’ll have to deal with frequent inspections, hoses, and potential repairs — but hey, it’s the price you pay for conquering hilly areas.
Battery
A Bosch 625Wh battery powers your Cannondale Moterra Carbon 2, and it’s a good choice. This battery leaves you with a respectable range for your anticipated endeavor – it’s suitable for both urban commuting and challenging off-road terrains.
If you know Bosch, then you know it’s a quality brand, so you shouldn’t dwell too much on this battery.
In plain numbers, a 625Wh Bosch battery can last up from 50 to 80 miles of range, which means you’re covered.
The Pros and Cons After Testing
Now, for the drum roll – we’re ready to spill the tea on the pros and cons of this model.
Here’s the thing. Cannondale’s Moterra Neo Carbon 2 is definitely a catch; not gonna lie. It’s got a strong engine that won’t hinder your adventure, highly sensitive brakes, and solid battery life.
The red flag is the price of this bike – $7,500 is quite a hefty price tag, and I’m sure not everyone is walking around with a sum like that ready to cash out for a bike.
The Fina Verdict
Bop or Flop? That is the question now.
Cannondale’s Moterra Neo Carbon 1 definitely bops. It’s a nice, improved model, fit for hilly terrains, and it offers quite a few attractive features. For more info, head over to our best all-terrain off-road E-Bikes – you’ll find everything there.
