Longest Range Electric Bikes: In-Depth Reviews

Forget about range anxiety with the HyperScrambler 2. This e-bike features two batteries that provide an insane range of more than 100 miles.

Thanks to the incredible motor power and high torque, the HyperScrambler 2 reaches high speeds in no time. It's ideal for anyone seeking long high-speed rides.

Frame

The HyperScrambler 2 is a beast when it comes to both speed and weight. With a whopping 119 lbs, this is one of the heaviest e-bikes. While the frame itself is made from aluminum that's a lightweight material, the batteries are why this e-bike is so colossal.

The Twin 52V 19.2Ah batteries mounted on the frame will provide you with enough power for a long ride but prove to be a nuisance while carrying up and down stairs.

Hyperscrambler 2 Frame

A major downside of this e-bike design is the non-adjustable seat. If you're tall or need a bike for long trips, the seat may cause you some discomfort.

Moreover, the HyperScrambler 2 doesn't have enough space for much cargo. It will provide you with immense power and speed, but it can't replace a car.

As for the safety features, this bike is equipped with integrated bike lights, turn signals, and dual side-view mirrors.

Motor

Having a heavy frame wouldn't have much sense without a strong motor. This e-bike features a Bafang RetroBlade rear hub that can produce 1000W continuous power and reaches 2000W at peak power.

The HyperScrambler 2 has an incredible torque of 90 Nm. This means that you can rocket up from 0 to 32 Mph by just turning the throttle. At max power, the sound of the motor is high but tolerable.

HyperScrambler Motor 2

When it comes to the pedal assist, some say that pedaling is not as convenient when carrying a passenger.

Battery

With the Twin 52V 19.2Ah batteries, you'll get 100+ Miles of range on the lower settings. However, if you want only max speed rider, you'll be looking at around a 50 Miles range before both batteries die out.

The batteries on this e-bike are easy to remove and can be charged on or off the bike. It has an integrated balancer module to automatically drive power from both batteries during the ride.

HyperScrambler Batteries

Moreover, if you want to use just one battery and leave the other one when range anxiety kicks in, you can do it. Simply turn off the other battery and turn it back on when there's no more juice in the first one.

Tires

The 20-inch Innova tires are ideal for this long-range electric bike. The tires are 4.25” wide, providing excellent grip on all terrain.

Brakes

With 119 lbs, the HyperScrambler 2 is definitely no lightweight e-bike, meaning it needs pretty good breaks.

The Tektro HD-E350 Disc-Hydraulic brakes are just what it takes to stop this colossal e-bike. They have enough stopping power, and you won't have any problems with deceleration.

Hyperscrambler 2 Tires

Moreover, the disc brakes come with an Electric Cut-Off sensor that overrides the pedal assist and the thumb throttle. The second you squeeze on the brake, the sensors will pick that up and turn off the motor.

PROS

  • Reliable hydraulic brakes
  • Wide grippy tires
  • High capacity batteries
  • Quick throttle engage

Cons

  • Incredibly heavy
  • Non-adjustable seat
  • Difficult to pedal while carrying a passenger
  • Not enough room for cargo

The Wing Bikes Freedom 2 is the ideal compromise between quality and price. Some components like breaks are not as good as they can get.

However, the low price must come with some trade-offs.

This electric bike may have some cheap components, but the battery, motor, and tires are reliable and of great quality. Let's be honest, its not easy to find a decent electric bike for around $1000, and this one is more than decent while boasting a range upwards of 45 miles.

Frame

The Freedom 2 has a unique and elegant aluminum frame design. It has a sleek custom LED display built into the frame.

The battery is almost completely hidden in the down tube, and you can choose between three different sizes.

Freedom X Frame

With a weight of 39-40 lbs, this e-bike is neither too heavy nor too light. Commuting with this e-bike is made easy, but if you live in a building, it may not be the best choice for you.

This e-bike comes in one size only, meaning not everyone will have a nice and comfortable ride. If you're not the standard size, this bike may be too small or too large for you. Moreover, the handlebar has a swept-back style, which is not ideal for all riders.

The Freedom 2 has a unique theft defense system in a form of a pretty loud alarm. With that said I don't recommend leaving it out on the street. However, if you must, the alarm will provide you with safety and assurance.

Rated as the best budget long-range electric bike, there are some trade-offs on components. Flinders, grips, and lights may look and feel cheap.

Motor

The Bafang motor produces 36V/550W of power and is incredibly reliable. With just one charge, you can reach up to 35/45/60 miles.

It produces a torque of 45 Nm, meaning you won't quickly reach the top speed of 25 Mph. You also have the option to add a throttle.

The pedal assist on this model is pretty responsive. As soon as you start pedaling the cadence sensors will kick in and lend you the motor's power. This bike has 5 pedal assist levels which you can select easily on the bike's display.

Battery

The Freedom 2 doesn't come with just one battery size, but three. You can choose between 8.8, 10.4, or 14.0 Ah battery sizes.

If you want a longer ebike range, I recommend choosing a 14 Amp Hours battery. This will take the performance of this electric bike to the next level, and you'll be able to cover an impressive range of around 60 miles.

Tires

When it comes to tires, you can choose between two types that are both 26 x 1.75-inch and puncture resistant. The Kenda tires are black, while the Innova tires are gray.

Even though this electric bike is intended for rides in urban environments, the tires proved to be tough and reliable even in rougher terrains.

Brakes

The mechanical disk brakes made from stainless steel aren't as good as disc-hydraulic brakes. However, for the price of this electric bike, its performance is pretty awesome.

Freedom X Tires

PROS

  • Elegant design
  • Anti-theft system
  • Integrated lights
  • Reliable tires

Cons

  • One size only
  • Some accessories
  • Slow acceleration
  • May feel cheap

While the Cannondale Topstone Neo Carbon 3 may not have the most attractive design, the frame hides the motor and the battery pretty well. What's more, all the cables are internally routed, giving the bike a sleek look.

The frame provides storage for two water bottles, and you can install a mudguard on the rear wheel.

The BallisTec Carbon frame features a Kingpin rear suspension that allows for 30mm of wheel movement. Surprisingly, this electric bike weighs only 39 lbs.

Carbon 3 Frame

Most e-bikes with rear suspension systems weigh much more. This is because its suspension system relies on carbons' ability to flex without losing structural integrity over time.

The Neo Carbon 3 features a Lefty Oliver fork that provides 30 mm front travel. This provides excellent control and comfort.

This electrical bike also has an adjustable seat that provides comfort even through longer ranges. It has an integrated Bosch Kiox display where you can track speed, distance, battery level, and more. Controls are located on the handlebar's left side, making it easy to control the pedal assist.

Motor

Carbon-3-Motor

This electric bike has one of the best motor systems on the market. The Bosch Performance Line is reliable and one of the most powerful systems. However, due to legal regulations that limit e-bike power, the Topstone Neo Carbon 3 goes as high as it gets to 250W.

It has a torque of 75Nm, meaning you can accelerate quickly even at a low pedaling cadence. The Topstone Neo Carbon 3 can reach a max speed of 28 Mph. With this e-bike, you'll be able to cover a distance of 76 Miles.

Battery

The Topstone Neo Carbon 3 has a battery size of 2.27 Ah. How many miles the e-bike can cover largely depends on the average speed, rider weight, and terrain. However, you'll be able to cover a distance of 40+ miles regardless of these factors.

Tires

This high-end electrical bike has WTB Resolute 25.6x 1.65 tires. They offer excellent grip in urban areas as well as off-road terrain.

The Cannondale Topstone Neo Carbon 3 is specifically designed for riding through gravel. This means you'll have a perfect balance with no sliding.

Brakes

The Shimano GRX Hydraulic Disc brakes provide immense stopping power.

They have pretty good modulation, and you'll be able to bring this electric bicycle to a stop in a matter of seconds.

The center display provides information about speed, power, and distance, while the other display shows the pedal assist mode and battery charge.

Motor

RadCity 5 Plus has a 750W geared rear hub motor. Compared to similar Rad Power models, this one has a much smaller but torquier motor.

It can deliver 58Nm of torque, resulting in easy acceleration and alleviating hill climbing and It can reach a max speed of 20 Mph and cover a distance of 55 miles.

However, the mile range depends on speed, terrain, and other factors like how much extra weight you have equipped on the bike.
